London is the capital of Great Britain. It is an ancient city. It stands on the river Thames. it is political, economic and commercial center. London is a city of contrasts. The heart of the capital is the City, it is the financial and business centre. It contains all important English banks and offices. Here is situated the Tower of London. It was founded by Julius Caesar. It was used as a fortress a royal residence and a prison.

The West End of London is famous for its beautiful monuments and palaces, fine parks, fashionable shops and big hotels.There are many places of interest in London. One of them is Trafalgar Sguare with the Nelson's Monument. The Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen. Not far from the Abbey is Westminster Palace-the seat of the British Parliament. The British Museum is the biggest museum in London. It contains a priceless collection of different things (ancient manuscripts, coins, sculptures, etc). The British Museum is famous for its library-one of the richest in the world. The East End is the poorest district of London. There are a lot of factories, workshops and docks here. The East End is populated by working class families.

Ист-Энд является беднейшим районом Лондона. Есть много фабрик, мастерских и доки здесь . Ист-Энд населен рабочими семьями.
